I had waited to long to shift, the clock had struck twelve and right when I was getting to the door of the school I had to shift. It wasn't like I was a cat or something that could just run away, or a mouse that could just disappear. No, of course not. Compared to those small creatures I was a monster. It's not like I had any friends that would pretend I was their pack horse, no, I was on my own, I had to think for myself. So, my hooves clomped against the pavement now as I cautiously came out from behind the dumpster, thoughts milling around in my head. There; there was a young one; probably human. She'd probably always wanted a pony as a kid; and she probably was still of the age where show and tell still happened. I whinnied and I trotted over to her, trying my best to look cute. Of course she squealed and hugged me tight, praising the lord for finally giving her her wish. She patted my head, and I just stood there like a dumb animal. "I'm going to call you Snowflake, and you're coming with me to show and tell today." She hugged me again, and gestured for me to follow. I had no where else to go, I couldn't exactly run the streets being a pony, and so I followed, no questions ask. God, I wish someone would save me.

I was just coming out of the school when the bell rang at 3:10. I grabbed my jeans bag, threw it over my shoulder, and rushed out, my white hair streaming behind me. I had just rounded the corner when the twelve hour rule kicked into play. Soon, my raccoon form had taken over, and I was left to sniffle around for a few hours in this form and wait to do my homework. Peering out from the alley I spotted a small girl leading a miniture horse down the street. With no doubt in her mind, Siren knew that this was a shifter, and a shifter that needed help. No parent would ever let their child take a pony to show and tell, or even down the block, especially a child of that age. Now that she thought about it, she had seen another girl running out of the school in the same form and fashion that she had done. I quickly ran out to the sidewalk and perched a few feet away from the small schoolgirl. I drew up her paws into the position of an irresistible puppy in the 'beg' position. She had to fall for it. Immediently the little girl dropped the reins of the horse and ran over to me, her hands clasped together in an excited fashion and screaming happily, "ooh! A KITTY! COME HERE KITTY!!!" But I had to dissappoint. There was no way I was going home with this child. She leaped away and brushed the ponies fur to tell her to follow, and dashed back into the alley.

I snorted and snapped my teeth at the little girl when she wasn't looking. What kind of name was Snowflake for a blonde pony! If I had been anything other than a horse, I would have been growling. But then there was a scuffling noise, and I turned to look. There was a racoon, begging like a dog. I giggled, which came out as a "pahaha" sort of noise in my horse form. My eyes sparkled a little as I looked upon the joyous little creature. I had never seen anything quite like it, in my home. It was a devilish looking creature, and I was appalled when it touched me. I tilted my head and squealed, shying away. The little girl shrieked and ran into the building, thinking I was going to bite her. I rolled my eyes, I had no choice. I trotted back to the alley, glaring down to the smaller creature. "What kind of stunt was that?"

I raised my eyebrows and shifted back into human form. Being a raccoon for too long was a pain in the butt. Ready to walk off I turned to leave, my buisness here was done and I needed to tackle some homework, but then I heard her comment. Calmly turning around I looked at the pony that stood before me, a glare in her eyes. Placing my hand on my hip I replied coolly, "What stunt was that you ask? That was the stunt that saved you from being taken home and then handed over to animal control." I nodded my head toward the entrance of the alley, pointing out the small child running to her mother and crying about her lost pony. Just as predicted, her mother whipped out a hot pink razor and dialed animal control to report a pony in the city. "One more second out there and they would have taken you away in a cage."

If I had been in my human form, I would have had to put my hands on my hips and snap at this idiot girl. Yes, I would be taken om,e but by then I could change back and just run away. Now I was stuck out in the open in a friggin pony body for the next couple of hours. "I'm a friggin horse! I'd be safer around little kids then out in the street like I am now!" I wanted to headbutt her, but she had a point. She had been trying to save me. But that didn't mean I had to like her tactics. "Look. I need you to pretend I'm your seeing eye pony or something until you get to where you're going. I can't just be alone out here, somebody will shoot me. Please."

I sighed, and was about to extend my hand when I realized she couldn't shake it. So I took a deep breath and started over. "Okay okay. Whatever. Anyways, before we do this, I have to know your name, caz I'm not going to call you Snowflake. I'm Siren." I sighed and turned around, picking up my embroidered blue jeans, over the shoulder backpack. I reached inside, my hand hitting chewed bubble gum, my iPOD, my razor and handheld planner (all stolen) and finally my fingers felt the smooth surface that I was looking for. My fingers curled around them and I pulled out a pair of sunglasses, slipping them over my beautiful face. Yes, my face is beautiful, I have been told that many times, especially by Flame.

I rolled my eyes as the prima donna got her stars and stripes straightened out. I almost wanted to go away, to find some other way to get home and out of sight. I just couldn't deal with this prima donna who must've thought she was ll that because her boyfriend told her she was pretty. A thought hit me, and I smirked. She wasn't paying attention to me anymore now that she was being such a brat, and she hadn't picked blind people's sunglasses. It didn't take much for a pony to do some harm. I raised my hoof, smashing it back down onto the ground, aiming for her precious little foot. "The name's Akemi, precious." I said, with a comical little smug smirk on my face.

I shook my head, and drew back my foot from her sharp hooves. I could easily get gored by this horse, but I was too da** mad! A glare rose up in my eyes, and I whipped the sunglasses off my face, reading her thoughts. She was pushing it too close to the edge. Throwing my studded sunnies back into my bag, I heard them crack against my textbook, and I spat out a few cusswords, and picked them up, tossing them into the nearby garbage. I faced the horse again and growled, "Fine Akemi. We'll do things YOUR way. But to get you wherever you're going, you'll have to be my pack horse, so saddle up." Without waiting for a response, I picked up my blue jens back and settled it over her back where it wouldn't dig into Akemi's side. I was about to put my handbag over her too, but decided that if she ever got mad, she could run off with my seventy dollars I had saved up, which surprisingly, wasn't stolen. My sunglasses were broken, so that ruined the whole, "rich girl" effect, but nevertheless I strolled out of the alley casually, waiting for Akemi.

I felt my heart break slightly as the girl before me looked so horribly sad. Had I really been that rude to her? Was I really that cruel? I whinnied as I watched her walk away, standing there and not following. I didn’t even care about the weight on my back. After what I did to her, I would just have gladly cared her to the end of the earth, just to make it up to her. I didn’t know anyone in this town. I had no right to be cruel to anyone that was around. Dejectedly I trotted over to her, my head hung low. We were in the streets now, I couldn’t exactly just talk openly; least some none shifter person would hear. ”I-I’m sorry. I-I’ll f-find a w-way t-to g-get y-you a-another pair.”

My expression softened when I looked back over my shoulder and saw the downcast horse following me like an obedient dog that had just been beaten by the master. I bent to my knees over at the sidewalk that we were trodding on, and was face to face with her. To any onlooker, it would look as if I was just petting my horse, but in fact, I was communicating. "I'm sorry Akemi. I'm not usually the prima donna you just saw, in fact, I'm really shy and quiet most of the time. I just got a little defensive after we met and... It's my fault for being snappy too. Where are you going by the way?" A large guy with a skull tattoo and leather jacket walked by, hitting my shoulder as he passed. I muttered a complaint, and grabbed my aching shoulder.

I wanted to lunge at the man that had hurt my friend, I could see the pain in her eyes. I squealed defiantly, and stomped my hoof against the sidewalk. He turned back around, and grew slightly wide eyed at the idea of some girl actually getting a pony for Christmas. He saw her holding her shoulder, and he stammered out a sorry before turning, and amazingly spry for a fat old man, he ran off. I giggled and nudged Siren gently, whickering softly to let her know my concern as some other people walked by with a wide berth. ”I-It’s okay. Don’t worry about it.” My head hung slightly down lower, eyes glancing up to her as I softly whispered. ”I-I don’t know. I-I’ve been hanging around the school since I ran away. I-I never actually shifted during the day before. I-I must have just been freaking out last night cause I kept thinking I heard voices fighting…”

I smiled and waved my approval to the quite wide man's apology, and then turned back to the pony that I was kneeling beside. My silver eyes met hers, and for a moment, we just stared at each other until the silence was broken by her words. My jaw went suddenly ajar, gaping as she spoke. Automatically, my eyes softened, and I whispered, "I thought you were rich or something! After all, you shift into a pony, not a wild horse! Would you like to come home with me? I don't have a house or family, but I have a futon and about a million pounds of bubble wrap..." Finally, I broke eye contact. She might not want to go to my dump anyways. Of course I could steal things from most people, but I didn't think I had enough stealth to steal a matress and bedstand from someone's house in the middle of the night without waking them up. So I turned back to Akemi, knowing that I should get up soon. People were beginning to stare at me like I was a lunatic, talking to a horse because I didn't have any friends, and in a way, they were right.
