Blood-Stained Raven
Chapter One
On an extremely dark and eerie night, a lone girl sat on the high top of a clock tower. With a Barrett M98B at her side, Raven Vevilla Grey peered out at the city below her. Her lips were pulled tightly, her teeth gently pulling on the bottom lip’s pink flesh. As her blue-grey optics scanned the terra below her, she sighed. The night had been a long one and her canine named Caya was coming to join her atop the city soon enough. As Raven waited, she gently popped a small grape hard candy into her mouth.
“Caya…where are you?” she paused, sighing lightly. “You should be here already!”
A small almost completely black German shepherd appeared next to Raven’s small form. Caya’s dark orbs, which consumed the gaze of most people, stared blankly at her master. Caya’s chime-like whimper expelled from beyond her throat, showing that she was slightly aware that something was wrong with Raven. Though unknown to the canine, Raven was deeply concerned with someone she loved.
“Master Raven…what, if I ma y ask, is wrong right now?” The canine lightly whispered as wind passed around the two as they sat there. Raven looked down at her hand as she began to twirl a small ring. Raven was playing with her engagement ring, and that’s why she was so troubled. The boy that gave her that ring was missing, vanishing from thin air. She knew he was taken and that he didn’t just leave her like others might’ve done.
“Zane ….has gone missing.” She whispered under her breathe. As Raven looked down, a single tear rolled from her optic. She shook her head and slipped of the ledge of the cloak tower. Her exposed skin was beaten by the wind and the gravity pushed her down towards the ground. As Raven’s foot hit the ground, a small thump landed next to Raven. As she pulled her messenger bag closer to herself, Raven started off towards the deserted bar where she had made a make-shift home.
As Caya sniffed the surrounding area around the bar, Raven looked at the moon. It seemed to have an effect that made you want to stare at it all day long…if it was out that long. Caya barked signaling that it was empty and that Raven could enter the bar. She slipped in, closing the heavy dark door behind her. She flicked on the lights and closed her optics till her sight was back to normal. Raven waltzed over to a cabinet. This cabinet was stocked with some food for both Raven and Caya. She slipped out a packet of rice and some dog kibble. After a full meal of rice and sushi, a small almost inaudible knock was heard by both Caya and Raven.
Raven growled lightly but slowly moved closer to the door. She cracked it open, and then noted the face of who stood in front of her. It was a former member of an organization named “Curse.” Curse was exactly what the name is….a Curse. The ones with the curse have strange powers. They all have one other form, but only Raven has two. She was the only one controlling the water in the air and any other water near her. Talented with many other gifts, such as mind reading and pushing thoughts.
Raven looked at her long lost friend, Paine, and sighed lightly. She fully opened the door and nodded for her to come inside. Her optics beamed lightly as she examined the girl in front of her. Things must’ve been bad if Paine has returned…
“Paine…what are you doing here of all places?!” Raven’s tone was demanding as she spoke.
“Zane is gone; I took a job to find out why. He was taken by the military, Raven.” Paine started, pausing for a second as she took off her jacket. “He was seen as a threat like the others were…like me and you for example.”
Raven’s throat swelled somewhat, as her knees started to give out. She was shocked and angered. She was hoping it wasn’t like that…but now that it was Raven would have to find him and take out his holders. She growled and made a fist.
“So…where did they take him?” Raven demanded again.
After a couple hours, Paine left. Raven paced across the room, the plans the two had made for Raven laid out on the counter. Caya watched Raven, with shining brown orbs. The clock rang twelve o’ clock loudly, the whole bar being filled with the sound of the clock. Raven stopped and looked at Caya.
“Lets get some sleep…tomorrow and the up-coming days are going to be long…and stressful. We need to get everything ready tomorrow.” Raven whispered before turning to go upstairs to sleep. As Raven changed her clothes and lay down to sleep, she thought of Zane. That night one memory filled her mind.
Chapter Two
Raven’s form was walking through the pouring rain. It had been raining off and on all day. Her black bangs were making it hard to see, so she slipped under a roofed alley. Sighing gently, Raven shook her head a little. Some water sprayed from her hair as she moved her head back and forth in that quick movement.
'Better' she muttered to herself. A loud thud came from the other side of the alley, then a little ‘ow.’ She blinked and growled. Her optics went extremely bright and the air around her started to cool. She was slightly nervous that it was a city cop, the ones who killed cursed ones. Her shoulders slumping, she moved around the corner and bumped into a stranger who was standing there. She caught herself before she fell. Her optics rested on the man before her now.
Zane turned around, a city cop dead in front of him, with blood smeared all over his face. He looked at the girl with curiosity and wondered 'What is a girl like this doing out so late?’ After thinking that, Zane just stood there. His dark brown optics looked over Raven as he waited for her to say something…if anything. Noting that the rain was still pounding the streets hard, he sighed.
“Names Zane. And what might be yours?” Zane asked his hand out to help her up.
"Ra…Raven” she finally spit out and then looked down at the ground. "S...sorry." she muttered. She got to her feet without his helping hand then started to turn around and leave. Thoughts ran through her head and then her breathe caught. Her cheeks must've been flashing some red because she now felt strangely warm when she touched her cheek. She then simply looked over her shoulder and flashed a smile that no one had seen in ages. She blinked her, optics still extremely bright. Raven then looked back at the ground as she took her first step forward.
Zane was taking interest in this girl now. She wasn’t like some others that he had met. She was strangely breathe-taking to him. His optics widened some after she smiled at him. He normally didn’t get that from women around him. He then wiped his mouth and grabbed her shoulder quickly.
"You know, you’re very beautiful" he said smiling, as he went back to his human form. Zane wanted to reach for her hand but chose not to. She might make a scene, since there was a dead corpse behind the two. He sighed lightly, removing his hand from her shoulder slowly.
Raven held her breathe. She never heard that in her whole life. She turned around and looked at his face carefully. He was handsome…extremely handsome for the matter. She looked at the ground again; her whole face was bright red. She must’ve looked like a tomato to him now.
"Thanks..." she whispered lightly. Her voice sounded like chimes as she gently pulled some hair behind her ear.
Zane looked at her, putting a hand under her chin now. He smiled at her for a moment. Thoughts buzzed like electric sparks, through his mind as he gazed upon her face. He was feeling slightly tingly now. He kept his hand gently under her chin as he began to speak.
“Raven, don’t look down. There is no need for you to be so…what is a good word. Timid, I suppose would work with you,” He whispered to her, still having a small smile upon his features. “Is it alright…if I held your hand and walked you home?”
"Can I show you something before you let me touch you?" she asked her voice like bells that were a little to high. Her optics went darker then normal and the air got extremely cold. Her form stood there somewhat frozen, the ice not appearing this time. Before Zane could’ve answered, a blinding bright light covered Raven’s form. The light blinded Zane for a second or two. She then stood there, her form changed. Her optics were unnaturally bright and her hair was silver now. She pulled one glove off, her optics on the ground again.
"Is it okay now?" she asked gently, her voice barely audible.
Zane laughed lightly. He was covered by thick black haze then as Raven looked down. After the haze spread, a new form of Zane stood there. His hair was now streaked with blood red, and his optics were black. Pair of black angel wings were on his back now as well. Raven looked up and gasped lightly. To Raven, Zane looked like her guardian angel now.
“Only if this is okay with you…” Zane replied to Raven.
"You...you’re a Cursed as well?!" she was slightly impressed with his form. Raven smiled lightly at him, and looked at him some more again. Raven then raised her hand a little, moving to touch his wings. She placed it gently on his right wing and her other hand slipped into his hand as she examined him more.
Her hand was cold, a little to cold. Ice formed on her hand and Raven blinked. She pulled her hand back after she touched his wing. Raven pulled her two black fingerless racing gloves back onto her hands and sighed lightly as thoughts ran more across her mind.
"So out of all places, why’d you come to Anu City? Every cursed one dies here except for the few that I know. I'm lucky, because I can kill anyone and or everyone." she sighed and stared at him.
"Why not Anu City? It's my quest to find the ones who kill us cursed ones and rip them apart, just like that cop there..." he pointed to the dead cop. "...I came to find those who need help, as well as find love."
He then stopped talking, his heart pounding faster as he looked into her optics. He didn't know what to say after words, so he looked down. Zane wasn’t use to the feeling that he was experiencing now. Was it love? He wasn’t sure…but he knew he wanted to talk to her more then anyone else.
“And maybe Raven, that is you…” Zane whispered lightly, his optics glued to the concrete. He worried what she would say to her now…
"Wh...why me!?" she asked slightly confused. As he looked down, she just stood there frozen. After a while a guard came to find the other one and saw the two near the dead cop. Raven cursed and ran towards the road but was stopped by another. Ice formed around her and she snapped her finger. The cops were incased by ice, which she then high-kicked the ice. It shattered, killing the cops.
"My god...leave me alone! You stupid annoying cops!" she muttered to herself, as she looked back to see if Zane was with her or not.
Zane, when the cops arrived, flew off. Though he was still close to her, on the roofs instead of on the ground. He smiled, until he saw her reaction to not seeing him. Her lips curled down in a frown and she sighed lightly. She whispered his name and then turned to leave again.
Raven’s thoughts settled into asking some questions. ‘Why didn’t he run, even when he heard my name? I’m the worst…I’m a killer.’ She thought to herself. She closed her optics, putting her hands in her pockets. She continued to walk off towards home…
'Maybe he likes me because I'm like him. Maybe he likes me because of my powers. Maybe he likes me...because he just likes me.' Zane pushed these thoughts into her head lightly. This was one of Zane’s many tricks…and he hoped it worked on her now. He then left her mind to let her think by herself, knowing that would change the course of events. Then suddenly...WAM! Zane flew right into a billboard.
Zane cursed loudly as he lost some balance and height in the air. He closed his optics, trying to calm down. Hoping Raven didn’t hear or see that, he smacked his head lightly and sighed. He looked down at her, watching her still as he was doing the protective ‘guardian’ angel deal on her.
Raven had strange thoughts, knowing it wasn’t her own. She looked up when Zane hit the sign and watched him quietly. Then Raven giggled lightly, almost innocently. She then pieced that it must’ve been him giving her those thoughts. She shook her head lightly, giggling still.
"Nice trick...mind reading and thought processing?" she asked aloud. Raven jumped up onto the roof of the building closest to her and sat down quietly. Her hair slowly turned back to black, her optics darkening as well. Her human form was returned to her and she sighed heavily.
Zane was slightly flushed when she asked the question. He flew over to where she sat, landing next to her. A small haze covered her back and he sat down. His hair turned all black again, his optics brown again. He reached for her hand and smiled sweetly at her, before Zane whispered lightly…
“Let’s stay here for a while? Deal”
Raven turned over onto her right side, her optics fluttering open a little. The old bar was still dark, but she knew it was already morning. She kicked her covers off, slowly getting to her feet. She sighed, opening the curtains so the room was filled with the morning light. Her day was only starting, but she needed all the time she could get now.
Chapter Three
After the fourth day, Raven and Caya were ready to leave to go find Zane. He was being held at the main CWN building, Curse War Network, which was guarded beyond imagination. As Raven and Caya exited the abandoned bar, she looked back once more. She left her engagement ring inside, in case she didn’t come back. She sighed lightly then turned and walked over to her Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14.
As Caya lay in front of her master, Raven slipped on her gloves and her helmet. She started the engine and sped off. By the time Raven got to the CWN building, she had been chased by more then five cop cars. Even though she was being chased, she did not get caught. They did not even know that she was going to the CWS building. When Raven arrived, she slipped her scythe onto her back and kept her P90 at her arm ready to aim.
Caya had padded up to the main doors of the CWS building, creating a diversion as Raven snuck onto the roof. The guards noticed Caya and took the dog into holding. Raven was worried what would happen to Caya, but the thing was that Caya had her own plan of escape and would meet Raven at the bar later that night.
Raven was on top the roof exactly when she had planned. The sun was setting right when she turned to look at it one last time. She sighed and shook her head. Maybe this was the end…her final battle. Raven turned then, walking into the stairwell. The florescent lights bothered Raven’s eyesight, making her pause and blink a couple of times. She then started making her way to the basement floor. No one had used the stairs as she descended; making it easier for her. She only saw people when she busted into the basement, her finger on the trigger.
People screamed as the guards surrounded Raven. A small sadistic smile was spread across her features. Her optics narrowed as she laughed lightly at how scared they really were. She was harmless…sometimes. Her face then went deadly serious as she pulled the trigger. This single action whipped out almost half the guards. As the bodies slumped to the ground, she slipped her scythe off her back, replacing it with her P90.
The remaining guards ran off, scared for their own lives after seeing their fellow guards butchered like that by a small sixteen year old girl. Raven was pleased at the fact that they had ran off so quickly. Instead of chasing the guards, Raven busted down a door labeled “Alpha Two.” That was Zane’s tag, and Raven knew it now. As the door fell forward, a figure lay limp on a small cot in the corner. Though one thing was blocking her way to the figure…
“How nice to see you again my dear Raven.” The voice rang out form the mystery figure.
Raven growled deeply and gripped her scythe tighter. She knew that voice from long ago, from the first day she came here; to the day she escaped from it. His name was Meriadoc, and he was the main doctor that tested on the cursed.
“What do you want? Give me Zane!” Raven demanded, her optics glowing now.
“Ah ah ah. Zane is in bad shape now Raven, you wouldn’t want him hurt by leaving now would we?” He asked his tone evil.
Raven paused, looking at Zane. His form was breathing in shallowly, and his heartbeat was faint. She looked down, a tear rolling down her cheek lightly.
“No…but will you let him go?” she whispered lightly. All Raven wanted was for Zane to be alright.
“Yes…but only if you take his place.” Meriadoc stated plainly, quite clear that he only wanted Raven not Zane. She knew why too. Raven was lettered “Alpha One, Class Origin.” She was the beginning of the line for the curse, and the doctors wanted to know exactly what they were dealing with.
Raven nodded and stepped forward. She placed her scythe on the cot that Zane laid, tears dripped off her cheeks. She didn’t want to leave him but since this was the only way he would live, she did. Before she turned to go with Meriadoc, Raven whisper three simple words…
“I love you…”
Chapter Four
Raven woke up on a small cot. She had passed out about 3 hours ago, from crying to hard for to long. The room had a security camera in it, which watched her closely it seemed, though she doubted that she would make an attempt to leave now that Zane was escorted out of CWN.
Raven looked at the ceiling before she heard the humming noise off a small drill. The sound came from the vents and it made Raven look at the camera, before looking at the vent. Who was it? Raven was a little weary, hoping it was someone she knew.
A small click and the vent cover was taken back. A head popped into view, a smirk across the features of the man. It was Zane. Raven smiled lightly. She looked at the camera, and Zane laughed lightly.
“The camera guy has it on repeat…he thinks you are asleep now.” Zane quietly said as he hopped out from the vent. He landed with a small thud, and he looked perfectly healthy.
“Wait…a little while ago…you were…looking like you were going to die!” she growled, standing up and narrowing her eyes.
“He gave me medication…it made me look almost dead. It was like I was trapped in my body…I want to tell you but I couldn’t!” Zane shook his head and chucked her scythe to her.
Raven caught it and sighed lightly. She had to get out of there…now. She walked over to Zane and he pushed her into the vent, where she saw Caya was also there. She smiled and started to crawl after Caya. Zane was close behind them, and Raven was slightly happy now.
As they reached the exit, Raven seemed slightly weary. Was this a trap? Was Zane going to get her caught? Something didn’t seem right but she continued to go in silence. That was what made it weird…how quiet it really was in there. Raven hopped out from the other end of the vent that Zane had opened up. She landed with a small thud and waited for Zane.
When she looked around, Raven saw nothing wrong and it made her settle a little bit more, even though she was still extremely weary. She sighed lightly and looked at Zane. Her bike was propped up against a wall, along with Zane’s bike. Caya barked and wagged her plume, as Raven moved over to it. Her weapons were on the bike and she laughed. Zane knew she was missing the weapons as well.
Raven smiled as she looked at Zane once more. She walked over, wrapping her arms around him gently. He wrapped his arms around her as well, smiling lightly.
“I love you too…” Zane whispered. “I never got to say it back before…”
Raven looked at him, then kissed his lips lightly before the two let go of each other and hopped onto their motorcycles. The three of them rode to the bar, quickly without being followed for once. Maybe this day wasn’t so bad. Raven smiled under her helmet as the two pulled up to the bar. She pulled the key out and propped it up. She looked at Zane and smiled again. Raven then took her steps towards the bar, opening the door. She stepped inside but was greeted by an old friend.
Maybe she was wrong again.
“Hello my Blood-stained Raven…”
